The Namibian Police Force in the Oshikoto Region has opened a case of illegal hunting against two men aged 44 and 31 for allegedly killing two black rhinos worth about N$1 million without a permit.

The region's Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, said the incident occurred on Sunday at an unknown time at the Kameeldoring waterhole in Etosha National Park, close to Oshivelo.

The suspects reside in Kotengua village near Opuwo and Omatando village near Ongwediva. 

Two male suspects accused of stealing N$50,000 from a tourist at Camp Kwando over the weekend were denied bail in the Katima Mulilo Margistrate's court on Thursday.

The two are 31-year-old Mario Wawo and 25-year-old Masiye Muyunza, who are from the Lizauli area.

They were transferred from the Menias Brian Libuto police station in Kongola to Katima Mulilo, where they appeared before Margistrate Sinyama Sibalatani.

The two remaining suspects in the Zambezi Regional Council corruption case involving more than N$4.6 million made a brief court appearance in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate Court this morning.

The two are Deputy Director for Administration Abraham Shikoyeni, 48, who was arrested in Windhoek on Monday, and Chief Accountant Nimrod Nehemia Lichela, arrested at Katima Mulilo on Monday.

Shikoyeni faces three corruption charges, while Lichela is facing two charges.

A 34-year-old woman, Anje Nauhaus, has appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate's Court in connection with the tragic helicopter accident near the Swakopmund airport.

Nauhaus is accused of fraud, forgery, uttering, and a violation of the Civil Aviation Act.

She is also charged with culpable homicide.

It is alleged that the suspect unlawfully and intentionally misrepresented a fake, forged, and altered certificate of the registration and flight test permit of the helicopter that crashed last week.

Two more men appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate's Court on murder charges related to the death of Peter Bockky Amwaalwa.

They joined four other suspects who appeared in court on Monday on similar charges.

Joram Gariseb, 18, and Lucky Gamathan, 41, were not asked to plead after their rights to legal representation were read to them.

The 22-year-old Amwaalwa was found dead and in a pool of blood in Swakopmund's Mondesa suburb by police officers on patrol about two weeks ago.

Matroos Raymond and Rajiv Jossep, accused of raping and murdering 29-year-old Quinteline Bonnita ǂEixas, a mother of four, in 2021, pleaded not guilty to both charges in the Katutura Magistrate's Court.

ǂEixas' s lifeless body was discovered on the premises of a church in Katutura by a caretaker.

Reports say the 29-year-old died as a result of blunt force trauma and injuries to the head after perpetrators used bricks and blunt objects, breaking her skull.

Two men and a woman found in possession of close to N$40 000 worth of cannabis made their appearance in the Rundu Magistrate Court.

The three, Robert Jombi Likuwa, Mushambe Kakuru and Veronica Ruhupwa were arrested at Tuhingireni settlement.

The total amount of cannabis found in their possession was valued at N$39 000 and weighed close to 4 kg.

The suspect was granted bail of N$8 000 each and is expected to return to court on 15 June this year.

Eight suspects were arrested at Rundu after a Grade 2 teacher was robbed by two men while she was teaching at the Rudolf Ngondo Primary School on Thursday.

It is alleged that the teacher withdrew an amount of N$14,000 from a local bank, meant for the regional sports event before she headed to school.

It is alleged that the suspects followed her to school.

The suspects allegedly gained entry to the school premises by jumping the fence and started looking for the teacher from one class to the next until they found her.

The Oshikoto Police has obtained DNA samples from two suspects who are mentally disturbed, in connection with a murder and rape case of an 80-year-old woman.

The murder occurred on Wednesday at Omainda Village in the Omuthiya Constituency.

It is alleged that the suspect attacked the deceased with a panga while she was busy cutting camelthorn trees, with the aim to mend her fence a few meters from her house. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that Elina Samuel sustained deep-cut wounds on the back of her head and died instantly.
