President Hage Geingob has called on the 'haves' in society to help improve the conditions of the less privileged.

Dr Geingob addressed the opening of the Community Legacy Centre in the informal area of Outjo - a one-stop service centre.

Situated in the heart of Outjo's informal settlement, Etosha Port - the Community Legacy Centre was constructed through donations.

Young people and elders of the town constructed it on a voluntary basis.

The centre adorned with statues of the founding, former and current presidents, provides municipal services and boasts a library, police station, clinic and community hall.

With this facility, community members will no longer have to walk long distances to acquire services in town.

President Geingob commended the Outjo leadership for developing people-centred services, adding that the legacy centre will make a significant contribution to the lives of the community.

"Those who have the ability, meaning those who are rich and those with money must provide a proper conducive environment so that they can create jobs and make money and therefore pay others who are working for them. That way they will be on their own but a conducive environment must be created for them. Those who are needy are the ones you pay attention to, like what you are doing here."

The President handed over an ambulance that was donated by the government to the Outjo Municipality, which still requires some repairs.

Former Outjo Mayor Samuel !Oe-Amseb spearheaded the project, which started in 2020, during his tenure as mayor.

"We are addressing the serious needs of the students in this particular area who do not have electricity during exams and during school days. They can come to the community hall for free, telecom has sponsored Wi-Fi, I can give you the password, CENORED has sponsored electricity. So during the exams, they come to the community hall without being disturbed and while they are also researching in the library they can study."

Speaking on behalf of the residents was Maurancia Oreses.

"The long distances we had to travel to get the services will be something of the past. We as learners have the library the first of its kind in Etosha Port and the community hall at our doorstep."
