The Namibia Women’s Hockey team coach, Erwin Handura, has stepped down. This was confirmed by the Namibia Hockey Union in a press statement.
The news which was doing rounds on social media was officially confirmed by the Namibia Hockey Union President, Reagon Craig. 
He stated that Erwin Handura had decided to step down from his role as coach of the National Women’s Hockey team to solely focus on his passion for hockey, specifically the Standard Bank Junior Hockey Initiative.
After calling time from his 16-year spell with the team, the Namibia Hockey Union expressed appreciation towards Handura who had been in the hot seat from 1999 to 2007 and from 2015 up to date. 
Handura, whose contract is set to expire this October, was unavailable to comment on his resignation.
Having already developed hockey in 11 regions over the past two years, the resignation will now allow him to turn his attention towards developing hockey in the Oshana, Kavango West and Zambezi regions.
Sport analyst Mathew Haikali was shocked by Handura’s resignation and stated that he did not see it coming.
Handura leaves the national team as the most successful coach in Namibian hockey history.
His list of achievements is long, as most notably, he was named coach of the year in 2004, leading the team to the gold medal at the Indoor African Cup of Nations, qualifying for the World Cup, and winning Gold at the Hockey5s African Championships.
