The Roads Authority (RA) has a line-up of projects this financial year in the northern regions, while some have already been completed.

In the Ohangwena Region, the RA has completed the construction of the Oupili-Onamafila to Onalusheshete gravel road, and they will soon start with Omukukutu to Omboloka, Omboloka to Omundaungilo, and Oshuuli to Omulondo.

"We are busy with Eenhana-Onhuno, and of course we have finished with the detail design of Oshikango to Ondobe, and we will be starting with the detail design of the low-volume seal of Ondobe to Omundaungilo," said RA CEO, Conrad Lutombi.

In the Oshana Region, the authority will soon award a bid for the upgrading of Oluno to Uukwiyuushona to a high-standard, low-volume seal.

The bumpy, dusty Oshakati-Ompundja also featured in the Roads Authority's priorities to be upgraded to a low-volume seal.

In the Oshikoto Region, the construction of a low-volume seal from Engoyi to Omuntele as well as Omuthiya to Amilema connecting to Onanke will take off soon.

"The idea is to extend from Amilema-Omuntele, linking to Uukwiyuushona, so that we get a surfaced road south of the B1, especially in Oshikoto. We will also be proceeding from Omuthiya on a gravel road to Elambo."

The upgrading of the Tsandi-Epalela to a bitumen low-volume and Tsandi to Iipanda, as well as the Onaanda-Otamanzi, are also on the cards.

"We have the gravelling of Onesi to Iitananga, which is taking time. We visited that road, and I am not happy with the progress, so we will make sure that we will give some time for them to deliver. From our engagement, there is the will, and they are putting together a team to fast-track so that we enhance the service we deliver to our road users."

Lutombi is, however, concerned about vandalism of road signs and infringement on the road reserves where structures are set up illegally, and advises the community to refrain from such practises.
