The Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, and Hardap Governor Salomon April discussed possible cooperation in agriculture, social housing, and education to improve the lives of the inhabitants.
They deliberated on these when Weiping paid a courtesy call on the governor.
"Realities in the region are that almost in all spheres in existence of people, dignity, and humanity, the responsibility we have as leaders collectively, there is a backlog. We need to make serious interventions to turn around people's lives. Challenges therefore are possibilities for jobs, jobs for people to earn something in order to have a sustainable life for themselves from day one to the next, and until there are enough, there are challenges from job opportunities," said April.
In response, the Chinese Ambassador to Namibia said: "I do hope that by working together, we can do something to further promote the pleasant exchanges and cooperation between China and your region, so today my purpose is to seek firsthand experience on your socio-economic development, and I believe that starting from today, you know, we can work together on some of the issues."
Weiping and his delegation visited the !Amab Dairy Farm as well as the aquaculture and horticulture projects at the Hardap Irrigation Scheme.
The delegation also travelled to Gibeon Village, where they visited dilapidated infrastructure, which in the past housed C. Spellmeyer School.
Plans are to refurbish the building and transform it into a School of Excellence.
The delegation also visited Dr. Hendrik Witbooi School, which came into existence following the teachers' strike in 1976 against Bantu Education.
