Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, says the police will soon start engaging critical stakeholders to map out ways on how best to collaborate and ensure a peaceful national election later this year.

The police chief says no unruly behaviour will be tolerated.

"We are going to start very soon. As soon as the election has been officially formalised by the appropriate structures, we are going to start engaging our stakeholders, such as the ECN, the political parties, emphasising the code of conduct, and just more on relationships. As we move to the elections, the community needs the police, and the police need the community. We do not want to get into the elections, and we are cracking. I have seen on the other side how people are throwing stones. We in Namibia are known for our culture as a peaceful nation, and I believe we will continue. But I must emphasise that NamPol will always be ready for whatever situation might come. There might be some that want to become unruly and disturb the peace of our republic, and the Inspector General, we stand ready to deal with whatever situation, but I must say that we do want to go to the extent of using force against our people."
