The MR 119, which runs from Gobabis to Talismanus for 145 kilometres, will be upgraded to a low-volume, seal-standard road.

N$200 million has been set aside by the Roads Authority for the three-phased project.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister of Works and Transport John Mutorwa said an appropriate road network is essential to facilitate poverty reduction through increased access to markets, food security, health care, education, and areas of social and economic importance.

According to Mutorwa, Talismanus's location as a major economic centre in the Omaheke Region serves as the foundation for the project's significance. 

Mutorwa urged road users to be patient as the road goes through the construction phase.

On behalf of the residents of Otjombinde, Constituency Councillor Wenzel Kavaka stated that the long-awaited project has now materialised, providing the residents with renewed optimism.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Roads Authority, Conrad Lutombi, stated that the road construction company is fully committed to ensuring that all Namibians have access to better roads as long as funding permits it. 

Lutombi  further stated that with the commencement of the MR 119 road, job opportunities will be presented to young people in the area.

Various traditional leaders from Otjombinde constituency and other key stakeholders in the region also observed the groundbreaking ceremony of the MR 119 road.
