The late Bennett Kangumu was buried at Chisawo Village in the Zambezi Region.

Kangumu, who was the University of Namibia's Katima Mulilo campus director, died following illness.

Relatives, friends, and colleagues of the late Kangumu paid their last respects at the memorial service held at Katima Mulilo.

In his message read by UNAM’s Vice Chancellor Kenneth Matengu, President Nangolo Mbumba commended the late Kangumu's contributions to the education sector and youth's academic development.

"I pray that the family and all of us will continue to cherish his deeds of selfless service to the Namibian people and elsewhere. As we remember Dr. Kangumu's legacy of upliftment of our society through research and education, let it serve as a beacon of inspiration for us to continue holding hands and building a peaceful and prosperous Namibian house."

Governor Lawrence Sampofu and the Swapo Party also highlighted the late professor's contribution to nation-building and unity.

The late Professor Kangumu is survived by his wife, three children, and one grandchild.
