Police reported several traffic incidents as a result of reckless driving that occurred across the country over the weekend.

Drivers and road users are encouraged to be extra vigilant in the run-up to the festive holiday season when police say they expect a rise in both criminal activity and road accidents.

On Friday, in Oshikoto Region's capital Omuthiya, the driver of an unlicensed Isuzu bakkie crashed into a parked Toyota Hilux at Cross Town Park.

The driver was found to be over the legal limit for alcohol consumption and was arrested.

On Saturday evening, a 32-year-old pedestrian was reportedly hit by a blue Renault sedan at Rehoboth.

He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital and later transferred to Windhoek for further treatment.

Earlier on Saturday, a police vehicle was involved in a collision on the main road between Oshakati and Okatana while responding to a call-out.

Also on Saturday, a case of reckless driving was reported on the B1 road, near Okapuku Village, 14 km from Omuthiya.

A Ford double-cab bakkie, reportedly driving without headlights, is said to have first sideswiped a Scania truck before colliding head-on with a Toyota Quantum bus.
