The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund has expressed concern over the rise in pedestrian-related crashes and fatalities across Namibia, particularly in the regions of Kavango East, Oshikoto, Omusati, Oshana, and Zambezi and |Khomas.
MVA Fund CEO Rosalia Martins-Hausiku said pedestrian crashes remain the highest category of road accidents year after year.
“In 2023, 32% of all reported crashes involved pedestrians. In 2024, that figure rose to 33%, and data from the first five months of this year shows similar trends,” she said.
Martins-Hausiku said, that pedestrian-related crashes are often fatal.
She appealed to the public to work together with authorities to help reduce these avoidable deaths, which largely affect people aged between 20 and 40.
