Türkiye's Ambassador to Namibia paid a courtesy call to the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation in Windhoek.
Ambassador Feral Oruçkaptan met with NBC Director General Stanley Similo, where they discussed opportunities on how to tell Namibia's and Africa's cultural stories through media and arts.
During their meeting, Ambassador Oruçkaptan said the African cultures and traditions are becoming an area of interest for the people in Turkey; hence, the need to build partnerships with media houses that can help them in getting content that is educational and informative to the Turkish community.
"Of course, the projects are not ending; we are looking for projects, like we are collecting some cultural heritage with tangible heritage from Africa to introduce the African people's culture and traditions to our society, because Africa is a very attractive subject for our people in terms of tourism and natural beauty."
She further noted that through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), they are looking forward to offering training to Namibians in the areas of media.
"This will be the first meeting to revive this cooperation, and we can continue at a technical level with our team, and my embassy is pleased – please be assured that our embassy is ready to help to assist your office in everything."
Similo welcomed the suggestion, saying the NBC looks forward to collaborating with Turkey in enhancing skills development for its staff and sharing Namibia's local content with that country.
"We are happy to hear that, Your Excellency, you are more than willing to assist us in getting and furthering these agreements with TRT. I think what we will do after this meeting, through your office, is put forward a detailed submission which you can then see as to what extent to TRT."
In the past, the NBC has sent its staff members to Turkey for training purposes in media and television.
