The Right to Shelter foundation of Namibia has withdrawn the town's Deputy Mayor, Dina Filemon, from her position.
The foundation has also reinforced her expulsion, emphasising that Filemon is no longer authorised to represent the foundation in any capacity.
Speaking during a media briefing in Gobabis, the representative of the Foundation, Veronia Mokaleng-Kuzeeko, stated that Dina Filemon has become a local authority councillor by virtue of her membership in the foundation.
"Dina Filemon was lawfully suspended and formally expelled from membership of the foundation on 05 February 2026 in accordance with the foundation constitution and the principles of natural justice. Ms Filemon became a councillor by virtue of her membership in the foundation; upon her expulsion, she automatically ceased to qualify as a councillor."
Filemon became a local authority councillor after her name appeared on the nomination list that was shared by the foundation with the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), following the November 2025 election.
The foundation has, however, maintained that her name was erroneously gazetted.
Mokaleng-Kuzeeko said Filemon was informed about this, but she had refused to adhere to the decision taken by the organisation.
She added that the foundation formally notified all relevant authorities about her expulsion.
Mokaleng-Kuzeeko emphasised that the foundation disassociates itself from any representations made by Filemon after the 5th of February 2026 and reserves all rights to seek appropriate relief under the Namibian law.
When approached for comment, Filemon - who has since been elected as Gobabis deputy mayor - said she was not at liberty to share anything with any media houses regarding her expulsion by the Right to Shelter Foundation.
