A new primary school is set to be built at Gobabis to alleviate the overcrowding in existing schools.
Speaking at the site handover to the August 26 company at Gobabis, Omaheke Deputy Education Director Eliakim Kavari said the new school will improve teaching and learning.
"We have six primary schools, each with an average of 1,000 learners, and one school has 2,000 learners. This situation compromises both the quality of education and access to it, so the new school will add value."
Once completed, the construction of a secondary school adjacent to the primary school will commence, depending on the availability of funds.
Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate said the construction of the school closer to the informal settlement will bring hope to the nearby community.
"If we give action to our children, we put them in a better position to better their lives and those of their families, and we are all of the opinion that education is the equaliser; it opens doors, and education also frees people from mental slavery. That's why we are here today."
