Members of the National Council (NC) raised concerns about school hostel conditions, unfinished projects, unclear budgets and collapsing government buildings.
The MPs further urged the government to improve accommodation and provide a supportive environment for learners.
"There is a budget made available of N$253,162,000 for 2024 and 2025. And also, N$70 million for 2028 and 2029. But then it is not clear as to where this budget will be made available, and even the region is not specified. But the language they use there is 'renovation of schools nationwide', without specifying where nationwide."
"I wish to highlight the issue of incomplete hostel facilities at Rivari Combined School in the inland. Since 2022, the hostel accommodation project has remained unfinished."

"I just want to request our government maybe just to allocate money to renovate our hostels. Because if you look across the country, our hostels are in very bad conditions."
"Community hostels must be taken fully by the government. Really it is a challenge with the accommodation. It is a challenge with food. And these kids are forced to go out every weekend out of the hostel."
"The buildings in the constituency are falling apart. Government buildings and hostels are falling apart. One day you will just see a building has collapsed on top of a child."
"We do not have any single hostel to accommodate school learners, and this is a challenge because some learners are from the inland areas. They do not have accommodations at the sides of the river, so at the end of the day, it forces them to drop out. So we are calling on the education ministry to consider constructing hostels in the Ndonga-Linena Constituency, including in the inland areas."
