Hope Home-Based Health Care has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Welwitschia University of Namibia.

Through the MoU, Hope Home-Based Health Care will provide technical training to students from the university, who will in turn provide knowledge to employees in the non-profit organisation.

The organisation provides home-based nursing, caregiving and palliative care support for cancer patients as well as medication monitoring and assistance.

"The students from the University of Welwitchia will be coming for practical learning to our facility, but they will also then share what they have learnt with our healthcare professionals who do not have full training like they do. So it's epic," says Eglien Uises, Executive Director of Hope Home-Based Health Care.

The MOU will focus on student placements for both social work and nursing students for training and to access their practical components.

The Vice Chancellor of the Welwitchia University, Marius Hedimbi, says the home-based healthcare system is required for students to be capable and competent in such aspects.

"So we think helping the Hope project with whatever we can is part of our corporate responsibilities. And we hope this will go a long way in not only meeting the Ministry of Health halfway but also in making sure that the students have practical knowledge and understanding in various aspects that affect our society."
