A delegation from the National Planning Commission (NPC), representatives from the Chinese embassy and key stakeholders conducted site visits to projects implemented under the Namibia-China Development Cooperation.
The site visits were part of the Namibia-China Bilateral Consultation.
The site visits included the National Youth Council's (NYC) infrastructure in Reitfontein, constructed through the bilateral cooperation.
The project includes construction of accommodation facilities with a capacity to host approximately 1,300 people, a dining hall, a stadium with a pavilion and an administration block, significantly strengthening the NYC's capacity to deliver youth development and training programs.
The delegation also visited serviced land in Grootfontein and Gobabis, where all essential infrastructure, including water, electricity and sewer connections, has been completed by the respective town councils.
The sites have been earmarked for the construction of two hundred social housing units in each town to be supported by the Government of China.
The Namibia-China Bilateral Consultation was held in Gobabis.
Omaheke Regional Council's Director for Planning and Development, Karukirue Tjijenda, reiterated, "We appreciate your continued efforts to promote equal collaboration with regional and local authorities to ensure that development initiatives respond to the needs and aspirations of our communities. The peoples of Omejide are honoured that Koppapas, Koppapas Municipality as a term, has been considered as one of the beneficiaries in terms of the proposed social housing initiative."
"The Chinese government will do our best to work with the Namibian government to promote the social and economic development within our capacity. We will push forward more grand projects," stressed the Economic and Commercial Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, Wei Jinming.
A key highlight of the visit was a tour of houses in Gobabis that were constructed in 1996 through the same Namibia-China cooperation programme.
The visit underscored the enduring impact of the longstanding partnership and its continued contribution to Namibia's socio-economic development.
The Namibia-China Bilateral Consultation was held in Gobabis last week.
