Namibia has welcomed and endorsed the Peace and Security Report, presented during the 36th ordinary session of the AU Assembly.

The report of the AU Peace and Security Council further recommended the promotion of national ownership and leadership of the flagship project of silencing the guns within the context of Agenda 2063.

This calls for AU member states to domesticate and implements the AU Master Roadmap in its five key dimensions: political, social, economic, environmental, and legal aspects.

The calls are against the backdrop of damning findings that there has been an expansion of terrorism in all five geographical regions of the continent.

What is of concern, as stated in the report, is the denialism by some affected member states, which the Peace and Security Council says continues to weaken its work in the area of conflict prevention and translating early warning into early action.

Namibia's President and Chair of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense, and Security Cooperation, Hage Geingob, says these challenges are making it hard to attain the AU Master Roadmap on Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2030.

However, Dr. Geingob says Namibia and SADC are encouraged by the activities of the Peace and Security Council and the departments that support its work towards this goal.

According to a shared statement, the SADC Mission in Mozambique is making steady progress toward stabilizing the security situation in the Cabo Delgado Province from violent extremist and terrorist attacks.

The President reiterated that the SADC region is working with the Kingdom of Eswatini to ensure the implementation of SADC decisions in that country.
