Top officials from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC) held an urgent meeting today to address the worsening security situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

SADC, the East African Community (EAC), and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) plan to expand export markets for goods and services.

This follows the establishment of the Tripartite Free Trade Area by the three regional communities.

President Nangolo Mbumba says he is continuing to build on the relationships established by his predecessor, the late Dr. Hage Geingob. 

Dr. Mbumba made these remarks at the Eros Airport after he returned from his official visit to South Africa.

President Nangolo Mbumba and his Botswana counterpart, Mokgweetsi Masisi, have directed their officials responsible for international relations to propose a date for the second Bi-National Commission meeting.

Bernardus Swartbooi, leader of the Landless People's Movement (LPM), has called on President Hage Geingob to send back the Zimbabwean Ambassador to Namibia.

Namibia's political stability continues to hold significance within SADC, particularly as several member states are preparing to conduct general elections in the near future.
