The Namport Social Investment Fund (NSIF) has invested more than N$25 million over the past two decades into infrastructure development and educational equipment throughout the country.
NSIF working committee member Noami Adams announced the figure during their handover of five computers, valued at N$74,000, to Vaalgras Primary School in Keetmanshoop.
Vaalgras Primary School, located in the Vaalgras village in the ||Kharas Region, is a brand new school that was built at a cost of more than N$100 million.
"The Namport Social Invest Fund chose quality education based on the United Nations sustainable development goal as a focus area so that we can play our part in helping educate Namibia. As we function better, so does Namibia," Adams said.
The school's principal, Geraldine Balzer, was overjoyed by the generosity of NSIF, saying the donation will help close the gap caused by the lack of access to information and technologies in rural areas.
"Your support will help our learners gain an understanding of artificial intelligence. We are living in a digital world, but our learners are from disadvantaged backgrounds, and they are not exposed to such digital appliances. In subjects such as ICT, learners are taught about computers, but today, Namport made it possible for us to put theory into practice."
The ||Kharas Education Directorate Circuit Inspector, Ryan Assegaai, also welcomed the good gesture.
"Staff will move the new school that was built a few years ago, and we will start with the process to finalize it before the end of March, and therefore we really appreciate this good gesture from Namport's side, and I would like to call on the principal and the staff of the school, because, you know, in the rural areas, our learners, normally when they come to Grade 8, have no knowledge of basic computer skills, and this should use to the benefit of the learners and also to the benefit of the teachers in the community or school."
