Twenty young people participated in a one-day workshop at Keetmanshoop in the ||Kharas Region with a focus on mainstream politics and youth involvement in the democratic process.
The workshop is facilitated by Queen Pieter, a youth activist who says that the participation of young people in mainstream politics strengthens democracy and the rule of law.
She says that voter apathy among young people creates the impression that young people are not interested in politics and discussions of development.
"We educate young people on why it is important for them to be active in mainstream politics because it then means that we also strengthen democracy as well as the rule of law. It is also important that we start to make informed and educated decisions as to where we want to see Namibia."
The participants represent numerous political parties, churches, and youth organisations, including young business personalities from the ||Kharas Region.
