The Governor of the Kavango West Region, Sirkka Ausiku, has called on the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Forestry to improve its procurement process to allow green schemes to run effectively.

Hausiku made the remarks when she visited the Sikondo Green Scheme.

Ausiku says she is happy with the progress at Sikondo Green Scheme and is optimistic there could be a bumper harvest if the ministry improves its procurement process.

Despite the good results, the manager of the green scheme, Maxwell Nghidinua, says the farm is faced with challenges.

He says currently they are using old equipment that is worn out, plus the procurement bureaucracy.

The manager says a limited market is also one of the problems faced, as they are forced to reduce product prices due to oversupply in the market, which causes a loss to the green scheme.

At the moment, about 160 hectors are covered with potatoes, maize, tomatoes, and cabbage.

A regular visitor to the green scheme Johannes Karondo, the Councillor of Kapako Constituency, says he is happy with the progress at the farm.

Karondo called on the government to support a green scheme to supply the country with sufficient food.

The green scheme employs 30 permanent employees, while over 80 are casual workers.
