Villagers at Mayara and Kavurira villages in the Kavango East Region's Mukwe Constituency are calling on the Rural Water Supply Department to deliver water to them.

Due to the loss of their water pump two weeks ago, the villagers are now forced to fetch water from the river, which is four kilometres away.

The borehole that was vandalised used to cater to the hospital, school, and community of Mayara.

Village Development Committee Chairperson Namuthinda Edmund said although they have a set amount of N$20 that every household is expected to pay per month for maintenance, some households never contributed.

Edmund is worried that, aside from the distance, they are also exposed to crocodile attacks.

The villagers are calling on the rural water supply to deliver water to them.

Kudumo Peter, the Village Development Committee Vice Chairperson, says they woke up only to find the pump missing.

Contacted for comment Rural Water Supply's Regional Head of Kavango East Region, Morista Katulo, says the water delivery truck is at the garage at the moment, and she is not clear when it will be fixed because the spare parts are coming from South Africa.

She says her office is also busy buying water pumps to replace the stolen ones for Mayara, Kavurira, and other villages.
