Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) president McHenry Venaani says poverty, corruption, and a lack of accessible health care services in the country need urgent interventions.

He was speaking at a PDM rally in Rundu over the weekend.

Venaani stated that PDM will galvanise efforts to develop and introduce a comprehensive and effective healthcare system.

He says the party will focus on health promotion and community health, which will eventually lead to physical and mental well-being.

"Access to quality essential health care services and access to safe, effective, quality, and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all; we want to end the clinic and the hospital of panado, you have a headache panado, and you have a toothache panado, PDM wants to end it by bringing universal health care coverage.''

Venaani further stated that inadequate access to quality education, the unavailability of decent housing, and youth unemployment continue to manifest themselves.

Venaani says the two Kavango Regions are rated the poorest, yet the regions hold immense potential, such as vast farmland, forests, and rich soil.

''51% of our population lives in abject and multidimensional poverty. Let us contrast this with the rich potential inherent in the Kavango Regions, ripe with the promise of high-yielding harvests, and their immense capability to accelerate job creation and ensure food security. By transforming the Kavango Regions into a hub of agriculture, we shall not only bolster employment but also create an ecosystem of growth and sustainability, firmly placing Namibia on the path to self-sufficiency.''

The PDM president says the party pledges to assist young people willing to venture into agriculture.

''The PDM will provide short-term interest free agricultural loans up to N$20,000 for between 1-5 years on the condition of prompt repayment of the principal amount, should we be voted into power.''

Venaani also put emphasis on corruption in Namibia, saying that money meant for development ends up in individuals' pockets.
