The Councillor of Katima Mulilo Urban Constituency, Kennedy Simasiku, is concerned about the state of hostels in the Zambezi Region.
According to Simasiku, who made these remarks at Katima Mulilo when he received a donation of mattresses from Tsumeb Dundee Metal, the majority of hostels in the region are in dilapidated condition.
The donation is intended to benefit the Caprivi Secondary School Hostel and Kizito College.
Simasiku commended Dundee Metals for their commitment to giving back to the community.
He emphasised that such a gesture is praiseworthy and should serve as an example for local businesses. Notably, Dundee Metals does not operate in the Zambezi Region, yet they found it fitting to provide assistance to underprivileged Namibian children in need.
Christalin Mushongo, the Tsumeb Community Development Coordinator at Dundee Precious Metals, believes that the welfare of young people extends beyond fulfilling their educational needs within the classroom.
Mushongo pointed out that providing a safe and supportive environment that Namibian children can call home is equally crucial.
Furthermore, Mushongo emphasised that, as a responsible corporate entity, Dundee is committed to extending assistance to individuals, organisations, and institutions dedicated to the advancement of education and development in the community.
Zambezi's regional Education director, Josty Kawana, appreciated the donation, noting that it came at the right time when hostels in the region desired them and other materials.
Kawana encouraged School principals and circuit inspectors to ensure that the mattresses are cared for to last for future use.
