The majority of people in the Omusati Region's rural areas are still not in possession of national identity documents.
This came to light during a three-day government information sharing session spearheaded by the Ministry of ICT as well as other relevant ministries and agencies.
ICT Deputy Minister Emma Theofelus spearheaded sessions in Omusati's Onesi Constituency to share information on government services offered by the Ministries of Home Affairs, Gender, Youth, and the Police.
At this outreach, over a hundred birth certificates were issued to children aged between one and five.
"Some of the challenges that hinder the people from obtaining national documents in remote areas are such things as lack of transport money, long distances to government offices, and a lack of necessary information on how to get government services such as birth certificates, etc."
Some of those who registered birth certificates for their children expressed satisfaction with the government for bringing service closer to remote areas.
