Swanu of Namibia's Party President Dr. Tangeni Iijambo tabled a motion to discuss the enforcement of the drought relief programme by training specialists whose activities are related to the environment.

Dr. Iijambo stressed that laws and policies need to be put in place to mitigate drought effects on people's livelihoods.

"Namibia is among the top driest countries in the world, and that awareness alone obliges us all as nationals, citizens, and legal residents to play our roles as individuals, communities, and regions to rethink, reconsider, and realign our priorities with the realities of the drastically and fast-changing environment."

Namibia is only 54% urban, which includes people living under conditions similar to rural ways of life.

36% of people living in rural areas or rural life experience the negative effects of climate change daily.

Hence, Dr. Iijambo placed emphasis on the significance of the government investing in educating specialists about the environment.

He called on the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation to create awareness about climate change and related conditions.

Contributing to the motion, PDM's Vipuakuje Muharuka raised concerns about environmental uncleanliness.

"It is a shame, in my considered view, for our tour guides to take tourists to areas where litter is prevalent as a secondary problem. The first problem is the fact that we as leaders allow this litter to be there."
