The Ohangwena Regional Council has initiated an investigation into the disappearance of N$200,000 that was intended for flood victims.

These funds were donated to the Ohangwena Regional Council by the Road Fund Administration (RFA) last year.

The incident occurred in 2023 under the tenure of the former regional governor, Walde Ndevashiya.

It is alleged that during that time, the former governor's personal assistant made contact with the RFA and requested that the money be transferred to the account of a company called Ethics Group Holding.

This request was based on a quotation amounting to N$199,772 to purchase flood relief items.

However, documents in the possession of nbc News reveal that only food items worth N$60,000, consisting of 417 10-kg maize meals, 252 cooking oils, and 600 tinned fish, were delivered to the regional warehouse in Oshikango, with N$140,000 remaining unaccounted for.

The regional council’s Chief Regional Officer, Fillip Shilongo, stated that the transaction was carried out without the council’s knowledge or consent.

Of late, the region has been marred with bad publicity after six of its employees were arrested for allegedly stealing drought relief food worth over N$600,000.
