The Ohangwena Regional Council has officially commenced its operations for 2024, promising to work harder and deliver services efficiently and effectively.
Ohangwena Governor Sebastian Ndeitunga, speaking at the Eenhana Convention Centre, said the event was necessary to remind public servants of what is expected of them.
Ndeitunga reminded the regional council staff of their duties and what was expected of them.
The Ohangwena Governor appealed to public servants to work with integrity, provide quality services to the public, and not just be satisfied as salary collectors.
Ndeitunga reminded public servants to serve the people with humility, dignity, and respect.
"The aim of the commencement ceremony is to remind the regional staff and the delegated functions that we are all expected to work harder and perform the duties entrusted to us by our government and our beloved people of Namibia. To the best of our ability, we must provide quality public service to our people. Recognition of a job well done is very important, it is motivation."
The Chief Regional Officer of Ohangwena Region, Filipus Shilongo, emphasised the importance of working as a team and reminded the office that both decentralised and delegated functions require harmony to ensure the region's performance improves.
"In terms of our mandate as per the regional council act, we also have to be cognizant of all other acts that are covering our operations, either the education act, the water act, the communal land board act, and many others. So therefore, when you see a regional council in terms of land acts, you should see land reforms, when you see a regional council in terms of audio-visual and print media, you should see the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology."
Public servants were advised to comply with public staff rules as a guideline and to desist from ill practices such as discrimination and theft.
