The world's largest floating book fair, Logos Hope, is ready to host thousands of visitors as she docks at Walvis Bay harbor this afternoon for a three-week visit.
Erongo Governor Neville Andre and the Logos Hope advance preparation team held a media conference to announce the vessel's program.
The floating book fair will only be open to the public from July 5th to 21st.
Andre says his office has engaged various sectors, including education, business, and churches, to get involved.
"The visit of the Logos Hope means a lot. It means that visitors have confidence in us as a country. I think we need to commend the people and the government of the Republic of Namibia for maintaining peace, stability, and security, which is one of the contributors to having people visit us."
Logos Hope is owned by a German non-profit organization and operates vessels that travel the world to share knowledge, help, and hope.
Kleicy Amaral, from the Advance Preparation Team of Logos Hope, says the vessel is operated by 350 volunteers from diverse professions and 70 nationalities.
"So people have an opportunity to visit our book fair and buy books at a good price and quality. As mentioned, we have around 5 thousand titles for people to come and experience. We also have our second goal, which is to help. As we come to a country, we want to be part of what is already happening, so we want to partner with local organizations and projects because we believe things are already happening and we want to amplify them."
"We have crew members coming down to meet the locals. They want to spend time with you, share their stories, and hear your stories. So we invite you to come on board the ship, make friends that can last for eternity if possible."
There will be cultural events on board and platforms to discuss social issues, such as gender-based violence.
