When he took over as the Governor of the Ohangwena Region, two critical issues needed Sebastian Ndeitunga's attention: a lack of potable water and a poor road network, areas which he prioritised.

In less than a year, Ndeitunga has now reported to the residents progress made in these areas and others during the State of the Region Address on Wednesday.

Ohangwena has an abundant underground water resource, Aquifer II, which has the potential to provide water to all residents and beyond.

However, harnessing this water source has been slow, with only seven boreholes currently tapping into Aquifer II.

Nonetheless, among others, seven deep and 38 shallow boreholes were drilled and installed in Omundaungilo, Epembe, Okongo, and Oshikunde constituencies.

Sixteen short-kilometre pipelines were constructed in the region.

"1,342 private off-takes were connected to individual households in Eenhana, Endola, Engela, Epembe, Ohangwena, Ondobe, Ongenga, Omulonga, and Oshikango constituencies."

NamWater has 18 ongoing projects in numerous villages of the region, in addition to numerous planned projects to supply water in various constituencies.

On road infrastructure development, roads completed include Epinga to Onakalunga, Endola to Eemboo, and Eenhana-Omhanda, while the rehabilitation of the Eenhana-Onhuno road is still ongoing.

During the period under review, the Education Ministry constructed 42 classrooms and received 15 more through the Friends of Education Initiative.

Construction of 70 classrooms at 13 schools is planned for this financial year.

Five schools in the region have also been electrified.

"Eleven localities were electrified through the Constituency Development Fund electrification projects at the cost of N$3.5 million. These projects were implemented in Ohangwena, Engela, Ongenga, Omulonga, Oshikango, and Ondobe constituencies."

To promote access to renewable energy in rural areas, Nored, in partnership with the German Development Bank, will connect 300 households through the Green People's Energy Initiative for Africa.

Governor Ndeitunga, in his address, implores all stakeholders within the region to combine efforts to bring about social progression for all the region's inhabitants.

His last call was to the registered electorates to exercise their right to vote in the national elections scheduled for the 27th of November.
