The President of the Republican Party (RP), Henk Mudge, has publicly criticized the government and the United Nations over their handling of the "Pact of the Future," adopted at the UN's 75th General Assembly.
Speaking at his party’s congress, Mudge voiced concerns about the lack of public communication regarding the pact and its implications.
He revealed that he had formally asked the President to clarify the details of the agreement but is still awaiting a response.
Mudge also took issue with the response from Penda Naanda, Executive Director of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, who dismissed his concerns as misleading. Mudge argued that the president, not ministry officials, should explain the pact to the public.
In his critique, Mudge referenced the pact's key goals, which include ensuring that the UN and other multilateral organisations deliver a better future for people and the planet.
He mocked these promises, stating, "The United Nations has failed for decades to ensure peace and stability anywhere on the planet."
Mudge pointed to ongoing conflicts in Sudan, Syria, Israel, Iraq, and Ukraine as evidence of the UN’s ineffectiveness.
When contacted for comment, Press Secretary Alfredo Hengari advised Mudge to consult the Pact for the Future document and raise any specific concerns directly.
