The Movement for Cannabis Legalization in Namibia is planning a protest in Windhoek on December 10, coinciding with Human Rights Day.

The rally will begin at the Windhoek Multi-Purpose Youth Centre and proceed to Ausspannplatz Park. Its purpose is to advocate for economic opportunities, healthcare benefits, and personal freedoms related to cannabis legalization.

Organizers contend that while large businesses are already profiting from cannabis-derived products such as CBD oils and hemp goods, ordinary Namibians continue to face criminal penalties for cannabis use, highlighting a "double standard" in the current legal framework.

At the same time, a legal battle for cannabis reform is ongoing in the Windhoek High Court.

Cannabis advocates aim to replicate recent changes in South Africa, where the Cannabis for Private Purposes Act allows adults to possess and cultivate cannabis for personal use, and eliminates criminal records for non-violent cannabis-related offenses.
