The City of Windhoek (CoW) has signed two separate Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Welwitchia University and the Namibia Airports Company (NAC).
Through these MoUs, the entities aim to create measurable impacts on economic and urban development, knowledge transfer, and public safety, while also promoting Namibia as a hub for investment and tourism.
The MoU between the City of Windhoek and Welwitchia University focuses on creating practical learning opportunities, aligning educational programs with workforce needs, fostering community initiatives, and establishing a foundation for long-term progress.
Professor Marius Hedimbi, Acting Vice-Chancellor at Welwitchia University, stated that the MoU will allow students to gain practical experience through sector-specific internships within the City of Windhoek, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world practices.
"We must equip students with practical skills to address real-world challenges. With the City of Windhoek as our partner, we have found a committed ally in this mission. Together, we will offer our students meaningful hands-on experiences that will deepen their knowledge, sharpen their skills, and prepare them to contribute positively to both our workforce and society."
In addition, the City of Windhoek has signed a MoU with the Namibia Airports Company.
The purpose of this MoU is to enhance safety and security for tourists, enable data sharing and capacity building, and support tourism and local development.
This MoU also aims to streamline collaboration in areas such as air travel, environmental management, and business operations to improve efficiency and create a model for coordinated efforts in regional development.
"The signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Namibia Airports Company and the City of Windhoek marks a turning point and symbolizes the strong alliance between the two entities. It is a testament to our shared vision of improving safety and security for visitors to our country."
Mayor Queen Kamati of the City of Windhoek stated that these MoUs will not only strengthen the entities but also bring substantial benefits to all residents.
She emphasized that the signing ceremony symbolizes their commitment to transforming agreements into actions that will have lasting impacts on communities.
"By aligning our resources and expertise, we aim to create a system that supports growth and provides a foundation for a thriving and resilient city. With this partnership, we envision improvements that will enhance Windhoek's status and showcase our beautiful country, making our city a more attractive destination for international visitors and business leaders around the world."
