Namibia marked its 35th Independence Day with the swearing-in of its first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. 

The event was attended by various dignitaries and Heads of State, who shared their thoughts on the historic occasion.

Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba expressed pride in witnessing the inauguration of Namibia’s first female president, calling it a historic moment for the country.

Zambian President Dr. Hakainde Hichilema described the milestone as significant for Namibia, SADC, and Africa, emphasising the importance of women’s leadership in strengthening regional partnerships and economic development.

Ambassador Albertus Aochamub, Namibia's representative to France, highlighted that Nandi-Ndaitwah’s presidency demonstrates that women can lead at the highest levels, noting her qualifications as a symbol of progress for Africa and beyond.

Former Speaker Peter Katjavivi reflected on Namibia’s resilience and expressed confidence in Nandi-Ndaitwah’s leadership as a historic step forward for the nation.

Emma Theofelus, the former Minister of ICT, celebrated the empowerment of women, emphasising the importance of holding positions of power, and wished Nandi-Ndaitwah success.

Finally, the former Vice President of Zambia, Inonge Wina, commended the milestone as a step toward increasing women’s representation in decision-making roles across Africa, calling for more women in leadership positions.
