The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has appointed former Member of Parliament Marina Kandumbu as administrator of the Katima Mulilo Town Council following the dissolution of the Council last month.

The Katima Mulilo Town Council has been without councillors for the past three weeks, after the removal of the political office bearers by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development on the 15th of August.

The removal emanated from matters related to the implementation of decisions without the approval of the minister, such as land for the vehicle exchange programme and disregard for directives.

"She is expected to implement the recommendations of the intervention team and ministerial directives that will be coming from the ministry and carry out any other duties assigned by the minister from time to time. and compile a monthly report for the progress achievements, challenges and setbacks during the execution of her duties," said Sankwasa.

The minister, from the onset, gave the administrator a directive to investigate Green Valley, the company that is constructing 100 houses in Katima Mulilo.

"I am informed this institution does not even have a water account with the town council; it has been drinking water for free. That one I need an immediate report on, especially looking at it in corporate terms, where ordinary citizens and pensioners in Katima Mulilo have had their water cut by RedForce, but the institution that is constructing houses with the highest water consumption is not paying for the water. That one angers me so much. If it's true, someone has to account."

Kandumbu promised to strive for effective good governance and improve service delivery for the residents of Katima Mulilo.

"I fully recognise the importance of collaboration at every level, from strategic leadership to operational execution. I look forward to working closely with the CEO, the management team, and all staff members."

She urged the council employees to approach their work with purpose, integrity, and certainty to turn plans into progress.
