Members of the sixth National Council held their farewell event on Wednesday, where they took a moment to reflect on their achievements and growth over the past five years.

The event coincided with the launch of the sixth National Council Legacy Report.

The chairperson of the National Council, Lukas Muha, expressed pride in the council, stating that in five years they have successfully reviewed over 60 Bills, ranging from public justice, finance, procurement, to health and security matters.

"I am very proud to report that during the period under review, we have successfully reviewed 65 Bills, and tomorrow we are going to add to that 65 Bills, because we are going to start with the 66th bill, which is the Appropriation Amendment Bill. I can proudly say we have reviewed 66 Bills in a five-year period."

The chairperson expressed his delight at the ability of members from diverse areas, cultures, backgrounds, and age groups to collaborate towards a shared objective and guarantee fair, practical, and beneficial laws for all citizens.

Deputy Chairperson of the National Council, Victoria Kauma, echoed similar sentiments, adding that members' contributions, both individually and collectively, have had a lasting effect on the institution of the National Council.

"The respect and the dignity you deserve – people are used to you. That means that you have left a mark. And the mark of the National Council will never remain only at the National Council, but you are going to move with it as we are exiting."

The sixth National Council Legacy Report booklet was also launched, acknowledging institutional growth and providing direction for future councils.
