Namibia has joined the international community in condemning the seizure of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, calling for their immediate return.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has conveyed Namibia’s condolences and expressed solidarity with the governments and peoples of Venezuela and Cuba following the 32 Cuban combatants and more than 100 Venezuelans who lost their lives during the operation in which President Maduro and his wife were seized by the United States government.

Speaking on behalf of the President, Prime Minister Dr. Elijah Ngurare made these remarks during the signing of a condolence book at the Venezuelan Embassy.

He emphasised the importance of unity amid escalating geopolitical tensions and reaffirmed longstanding historical and diplomatic ties between Namibia, Cuba, and Venezuela.

Namibia further condemned what it described as the kidnapping of the Venezuelan President, stating that the act violates the Charter of the United Nations and represents a blatant disregard for international law.

The government reiterated that Nicolás Maduro remains the legitimate President of Venezuela.
