The Otjozondjupa Directorate of Education officially launched its annual career fair at Tsumkwe Senior Secondary School.
The event aims to provide essential career guidance to Grade 12 and AS Level learners, connecting them with various higher learning and vocational training institutions.
Regional School Counsellor for Otjozondjupa Aini !Hoaes said, "We invite people from institutions of higher learning to come and explain to the children what kind of courses they have and what the requirements are for a learner to register for them. Traditionally, we invited NSFAF to come also and explain to them what kind of courses they are funding, but now we know education is free, but at this centre we have the Allan Grey fellowship that is also funding learners with outstanding performance, and we asked them to come and talk to the children."
!Hoaes called on learners to value education, especially now that it is free, and remain disciplined and persistent in their studies.
"We have a particular interest in the children from Gam and Tsumkwe because of the distance they have from the regional office and also because of the marginalisation," she said.
COSDEC representative Natalie Shikesho noted that the fair offers practical support for prospective students.
The career fair will be held at various schools across the region to ensure a wide reach.
