The government inaugurated a new computer laboratory at Petrus !Ganeb Secondary School in Uis, Erongo Region, to bridge the digital divide and improve education access.

Education Minister Sanet Steenkamp said, “This facility marks a crucial step in ensuring no Namibian child is left behind in an increasingly digital world.”

The lab was funded by the Swakop Uranium Foundation, which donated 20 computers, a printer, and network equipment valued at N$347,000.

Dr. Steenkamp acknowledged infrastructure challenges, noting learners currently travel to Omaruru for practical science lessons due to a lack of a laboratory.

Swakop Uranium CEO Luo Wei urged students to use the computers as “gateways to knowledge, innovation, and opportunity,” reaffirming the Foundation’s 10-year commitment to supporting computer studies nationally.

School principal Ronald /Awarab encouraged teachers to maximize the new facility, while Erongo Chief Regional Officer Mupenzeni Ntelamo emphasized Uis’s strategic importance as a transit hub once road improvements are completed.

School Alumni Group to Construct Hall at Festus Gonteb Primary School

Residents and alumni of Festus Gonteb Primary School in Mondesa, Swakopmund, are partnering with government to build a school hall to accommodate a growing learner population.

Alumni spokesperson Fluksman Samuehl said, “This project is urgent. Festus Gonteb is not just an ordinary school; it is a heritage institution, the oldest school where I started Sub A in 1974. It offers enormous potential to support Namibian children.”

The group has already funded a two-million-dollar boundary wall.

Erongo Governor Nathalia /Goagoses stressed that proper school facilities should not be a luxury and called for fully equipped schools from inception.

Acting Education Director Helena Asino noted budget constraints limit new infrastructure projects but assured technical support for the hall’s construction.

The project will be driven through a partnership between government, the regional council, and the alumni network.
