The Mayor of Keetmanshoop, Melody Swartbooi, actively engaged with residents to raise awareness about their responsibility to maintain a clean environment.
Joined by fellow councillors and residents, the mayor launched the 'Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign Phase 1' in the town's Tseiblaagte residential area, primarily targeting informal settlements.
The second and third clean-up campaigns are set to target the Noordhoek and Westdene residential areas.
"We need to be the frontrunners of our town to make sure that it is clean. So a clean town, a happy home, a happy town, and happy residents," said Swartbooi.
Councillor Piter Skeyer thanked Swartbooi for the initiative, adding that "she took it in terms of telling us as councillors to say we have to be the ones to start. From my perspective, the first point I want to make is that this is a good initiative. So, that is why I am here with the mayor to make sure the town is clean."
The council's junior mayor, Llewelyn Rooi, expressed gratitude for youth participation in the clean-up campaign.
"Come and let us keep this town happy, safe, and clean," he said.
