President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah participated in the Ascension Day celebrations in the Onamutai community alongside many Namibian Christians.
The President's visit to the area of her birth and upbringing highlights her continued commitment to her roots and her belief in the role of spiritual guidance within the national leadership.
"I feel so very proud that President Madam Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah took time to come and worship with us. We are happy because she is our child; she was baptised and also had her confirmation here. We are truly happy because she came to her home church, where she was born, and just like Jesus, gathered with other Christians."
Addressing the congregation, the Head of State reflected on the immense sacrifice made on 4 May 1978, when South African soldiers attacked the Cassinga refugee camp.
She noted the deep emotional significance of the massacre's anniversary falling just a few days before Ascension Day, stating that the two dates will forever be linked in her memory.
"When I returned home here in Onamutai, I was one of the lucky ones, even if I found that my father was late and my mother was alive, and I vividly remember how she would always talk about Cassinga."
The President urged elders to ensure that children attend Sunday school, as it instils discipline, love, respect, and spiritual growth from a young age.
