The Hardap Region remains committed to supporting national priorities, strengthening regional development, and improving the living conditions of communities.
Hardap Governor Riaan McNab said this when he delivered the State of the Region address at Mariental.
The governor stated his office has prioritised social solidarity through targeted interventions, citing two iron zinc houses that were built for elderly women at Gibeon.
It also distributed 200 blankets and 200 food parcels to elders in Rehoboth, while 300 vulnerable beneficiaries have also benefited from feeding initiatives.
Key infrastructure development completed includes the N$4.8 million Hoachanas oxidation pond upgrade project.
Construction works are also underway for an additional water reservoir and two boreholes at the village at the cost of N$3.3 million.
The Road Fund Administration allocated N$1.1 million for the upgrading of roads.
"In the Klein-Aub settlement, a 255 cubic metre elevated water reservoir and a 6x5x3 groundwater storage tank are currently at 15 percent progress and allocated N$6.1 million. In addition, the formalisation of the Sonderwater settlement is at 20 percent completion. Available land remains the top priority for the regional leadership, and the acquisition of land for developmental purposes is a continuous process. An allocation of N$1.70 will be used for interlocking in Klein Aub."
The construction of bulk water infrastructure to the value of N$9 million has commenced at Schlip village to address water challenges.
The formalisation of Schlip is also progressing well; that will come at a cost of N$2.8 million.
A fencing extension of about two kilometres at the New-Haribes resettlement farm was also completed at a cost of N$79,900.
More than 800 households are expected to be connected to the national electricity grid at a cost of N$10 million.
He urged the region's leadership to recommit themselves to the principle that regional interest must be given the prominence and priority it deserves.
