The National Democratic Party's (NDP) leader, Lukato Lukato, sought clarity from the Ministry of Industries, Mines, and Energy regarding progress made with an electrification project launched in 2024 involving billions of dollars donated by the German government.
Minister Modestus Amutse clarified that the donated funds amounted to about N$144 million, adding that a contract was awarded in October last year for the implementation of the project.
"Work has been advancing; projects, most of them, are completed. For example, in the Zambezi Region, specifically Katima, two areas were prioritised. These are Choto extension 7 and Choto extension 8. And together, these areas are expected to have connected 700 households, roughly 315 in extension 7 and 365 in extension 8."
Amutse further informed the House that "implementation was also coordinated for electrification across other northern regions such as the Kavango East, Kavango West, Ohangwena, and Oshana regions".
The minister also mentioned that he is planning an oversight visit specifically to the Zambezi Region in the coming days.
