The Keetmanshoop Regional Court has postponed the sentencing of former Public Service Chairperson (PSC) Salmaan Jacobs for the fourth time.

Jacobs was convicted on a corruption charge after the state successfully appealed against an earlier not-guilty verdict.
Postponing Jacobs' sentencing, Magistrate Frans Anderson said the "court needs more time as documents still need to be sorted out".

Jacobs was convicted of contravening the Anti-Corruption Act after having obtained gratification of N$30,000 by corruptly using his office or position.

He received N$4,500 of the money, paid into Sadadi Enterprises CC, in which he and his wife hold interest.

The payment followed a project proposal drafted and submitted by Jacobs, in the name of Sadadi, on behalf of his nephew, to the ||Kharas Regional Council.

At the time of the offence, between 10 June and 10 July 2006, Jacobs was employed as the Chief Regional Officer of the ||Kharas Regional Council.

During the mitigation of sentencing, Jacobs' lawyer argued an appropriate sentence would be a warning or fine not more than N$5000.

The state called for a fine of N$20,000 or four years' imprisonment.
Jacobs will return to court for sentencing on 31 July.
