The U.S. Embassy in Windhoek will no longer issue visas from 1 August.

Applicants looking to travel to the United States will now have to travel to South Africa, either Johannesburg or Cape Town, for visa services.

The Embassy said the change forms part of a U.S. Department of State decision to realign routine visa processing across sub-Saharan Africa by concentrating services at about 20 regional hubs.

Applicants seeking U.S. visas on or after 1 August must schedule their appointments and pay the required visa fees at either of the two South African missions.

It said the move does not change the operating status of the embassy, which will continue carrying out its other diplomatic and consular responsibilities.
