Kunene Governor Vipuakuje Muharukua has welcomed Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi's inspection of ongoing road construction projects in his region, describing the visit as a positive step towards improving connectivity and accelerating development and economic growth.

Muharukua said quality road infrastructure is essential for economic growth, service delivery and the safety of all road users.

He expressed satisfaction that the government continues to prioritise road construction in the Kunene region, as improved roads will provide easier access to schools, health facilities, markets, tourists and other essential services.

"I am very happy I see some chiefs are here; I am sure they are also very happy at the minister's coming. This is the doing of the president. What she demands of us is to be working non-stop in serving the community. In turn, this is also what the party has deployed us for. Swapo demands that we make sure that the communities are served with efficiency; that is why we are here today."

The Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer, Mbahupu Tjivikua, welcomed the minister's updates on road conditions, which will allow contractors to anticipate and minimise construction challenges.

"The minister has also instructed us that we need to do the stabilising of the road because we are not going to look at the gravel road anymore, but stabilising is a very scientific and also engineering programme that will enable us to use the materials that are already on the ground, and it will also make the maintenance on the road much cheaper."
