The Eengodi Constituency Councillor Saara Shikokola has marked over seven months in office by reflecting on community achievements and structural challenges.

One of the achievements highlighted is the introduction of a mobile police station, which visits the area every Monday.

It is stationed at the clinic and has helped improve safety.

“Some families used to raise concerns about known suspects who used to get away with crime, but now, some suspects have been arrested and crime reduced following police intervention.”

Shikokola said her office has also requested the expansion of the only clinic in the area into a health center.

The councillor said community engagement has been key to development, adding that continuous meetings with traditional leaders and community members have helped identify priorities and track progress.

One of the main challenges in the constituency is water shortage.

She said her office has submitted requests through the regional council to address the water crisis.

“Water is life, but many people walk long distances or travel to towns such as Ondangwa and Omuthiya to buy drinking water.”

She commends the Ministry of Health and Social Services for providing clean water and chemical disinfection for water tanks at schools and clinics.

“I feel honoured being the only female councillor among ten councillors. Community engagements have been part of the development.”

Shikokola is the third councillor to lead the constituency.

The region has eleven constituencies.
