Opposition parties again walked out of the National Assembly in protest of what they termed the bias of the Speaker in the way he handled parliament.
Upon resumption of the house this afternoon, NUDO MP Joseph Kauandenge stood up and registered the discontentment of opposition party members, saying all of them will walk out of the National Assembly until the Speaker, Peter Katjavivi, provides an explanation for yesterday's situation in the house.
Kauandenge stressed that they are disturbed by the Speaker's bias, which is against the oath he took when assuming his office.
The NUDO MP says Prof. Katjivivi did not call Works and Transport Deputy Minister Veikko Nekundi when contributing to the mid-term budget debate and was allowed to insult the opposition parties.
The entire opposition bench then walked out of Parliament.
Professor Katjavivi, on the other hand, stated that he would respond to what happened yesterday next week.
He explained that what happened yesterday was just a normal point of order raised by a member, which is a common practice and within the house rules.
But she described the constant interjections during Nekundi's speeches by opposition party MPs as deliberate attempts to derail progress in the house.
The Justice Minister and her Defense and Veterans Affairs counterpart, Frans Kapofi, demanded that the opposition MPs make a written submission on their actions and demands.
The Speaker then adjourned the session because the house could not form a working quorum.
