Former DRC president among Geingob mourners

Dignitaries, including the former President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, visited the residence of the late President Hage Geingob and expressed condolences to his widow, Monica Geingos, and children.

The mood continues to be sombre at Casa Rosalia as the family of the late President Geingob comes to terms with his passing.

DRC's former President Joseph Kabila consoled Geingos and the late Geingob's children, after which he signed the book of condolences.

Voting commences in the DRC

Over 40 million registered voters in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) took to the polls today in the country's presidential, legislative, and provincial elections.


The day started off well, with the SADC Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM) expressing satisfaction with the process.

The mission is expected to issue its preliminary findings on Friday, December 22.

Incumbent President Felix Tshisekedi, who is seeking a second and final term, also cast his vote at St. George's College in Kinshasa.

SADC set to decide on whether to send troops to DRC

The 25th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation in Windhoek this week is expected to discuss matters pertaining to the region's security as well as sending troops to countries in conflict.


The Deputy Executive Director and Head of Multi-lateral Relations and Cooperation Department in the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Jerobeam Shaanika, explained that the troops to be sent should not be confused with the Force Intervention Brigade contributed by individual countries.

Quadripartite Summit to harmonise consultations on peace efforts in eastern DRC

African leaders, including Vice President Nangolo Mbumba, who attended the Quadripartite Summit, have decided to institutionalise the platform to continue to harmonise consultations on peace efforts in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

However, funding commitments still remain a challenge.
