Alcohol, drug abuse key factors leading to GBV

Alcohol and drug abuse are some of the key factors leading to gender-based violence (GBV), hence the need for more awareness campaigns and advocacy to root out social ills.

This sentiment was shared at an event on the 16 days of activism at Leonardville in Omaheke's Aminuis constituency.

The station commander at Leonardville Police Station, Chief Inspector Lina Binga, emphasised that ending gender-based violence amongst communities should be everyone's responsibility.

In a significant event marking the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare in the Zambezi Region held a commemoration at Chetto, Kongola constituency, on Wednesday.

This initiative underscores the region's commitment to combating this critical issue.

The day, which included activities such as poems, dramas, and musical performances, was celebrated under the theme: UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls.
